About the Opportunity
As a growing health authority, Sapotaweyak
Cree Nation has an opening for a
diligent Community Health Nurse to join its team.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Health,
you will provide Community
Health programs and work cooperatively with other jurisdictions
within First
Nation communities.
Community Health Programs include:

* School Health Education

You will also be responsible for communicating
with other departments,
through writing reports and documenting client care.
The ideal candidate will have a strong background
in immunizations, pre and

The SPL supports professional, practice, program and organizational goals in
collaboration with the President, the Vice Presidents, the Chief of Nursing
and others. The Senior Practice Leader provides a leadership role in liaison with
Community/Public Health organizations and practitioners throughout BC and
consults, advises, organizes and teaches provincial neonatal/perinatal/women's health
education programs in partnership with other care providers.
Key Responsibilities include:
. Acts as a resource and consultant for local, provincial and
national
planning in the area of neonatal/perinatal, and/or women's health
care and
advanced clinical practice approaches at the program, organizational,
community, provincial, national and international levels.
. Advises the Vice Presidents, physicians, nursing and other providers
across and beyond the boundaries of the organization about issues
related to
neonatal/perinatal women's health care to promote optimum and
effective
resource allocation. Participates in the development, implementation
and
evaluation of local, provincial, and national patient care standards
and
professional practice standards through mentoring, committee membership
and
organizational and cross organizational task forces and committees.
. Promotes evidenced-based practice and shares knowledge about
current
research and literature including innovation in practice, complications
of
pregnancy and management of complex situations. Establishes opportunities
to support staff in implementing evidence based practice and in
clinical
research endeavors and promotes and advances best practice through
publications, presentations, and conferences.
. Plans, implements and evaluates appropriate educational programs
based on ongoing needs assessment, in collaboration with educators
and other
professional staff.
. Pursues formal relationships (including through joint appointments)
with academic programs in university settings (BCIT, University
of BC,
University of Victoria), with professional associations and with
other
organizations involved in perinatal (including neonatal) and women's
health
care service delivery. Precepts and mentors students at a graduate
level
and from different disciplines.
. Initiates and participates in community development initiatives
and
provides support for the development of outreach initiatives in
line with
organizational and program priorities. Teaches within educational
outreach
programs and coordinates with other medical/nursing experts to
present
workshops. Represents the hospital on external committees and
with external
bodies, including the Ministries as required.
. Scans the environment and the literature to identify emerging
practice trends and challenges and implements strategies to address
challenges. Leads and manages complex and innovative projects
and
initiatives and engages all disciplines to find solutions.
To be successful in this role you will need
a level of education, training,
and experience equivalent to a Masters Degree in Nursing, or related
field
and five (5) years recent related experience in progressively
senior
leadership positions or advanced practice roles. Eligible for
registration
with the College of Registered Nurses of BC (CRNBC) and hold current
certification in CPR is necessary. Ideally the incumbent will
demonstrate
professional leadership by holding a certification relevant to
the program
area such as Neonatal Specialty Nursing Certificate or a CNA Certification
in Perinatal Nursing.
The incumbent for this role will also have
demonstrated knowledge and
clinical experience in neonatal/perinatal nursing, and/or women's
health and
will have experience in teaching and program development. This
position
thus requires strong facilitation skills, and an ability to communicate
effectively both orally and in writing. The SPL participates as

Primary Health Care Nurse
Community Nursing

An exciting auxiliary on-call position (up
to 75 hours bi-weekly) for a
skilled health professional
Location: Various Communities, YT

Reporting to the Manager Community Nursing,
you will take an active part in
delivering and evaluating clinical and health education services
in
communities throughout the Yukon.
As a Primary Health Care Nurse, you will
be part of a team that fosters an
environment where individuals, families and the community as a
whole are
supported to achieve and maintain optimum health. This will be
accomplished
by providing health education, promotion and prevention activities
in
addiction to acute and emergency care. Whether delivering primary
health
care, education, consultation or individual counseling, you will
be part of
a team that constantly strives to improve our services for the
people of the Yukon.
Your credentials include either a Canadian
nursing degree or a nursing
diploma combined with a Community Health certificate. Along with
a
certificate in the Northern Clinical Program, the Outpost Nursing
Program or
a recognized equivalent, you have significant experience in delivering
community health and treatment services in an expanded role a
cross-cultural
environment. Excellent communications skills, flexibility and
the ability to
lead, instruct and counsel are combined with a strong sense of
confidentiality.
In addition to current Yukon RN registration
and Basic CPR HCP, you have a
valid driver's licence and will be subject to TB testing and a
security clearance.
Salary: $38.40 to $44.39 per hour. Approved
candidates will be provided
reimbursement of interview/relocations expenses, if required,
in accordance
with the Interview & Relocation Expense Directive.

Infection Control Practitioner PART (.5) TIME POSITION (37.5 hours bi-weekly) (PIPSC Bargaining Unit)
This position is at the L09 level with an hourly pay rate of$ 28.18 to $ 37.64.
Reporting to the Quality Improvement/Risk Management Manger, this position
supports the strategic goals and objectives of the corporate Infection
Prevention and Control Program; provides Infection Control expertise
within the Whitehorse General Hospital to prevent, and/or minimize,
nosocomial infection to patients; conducts necessary baseline surveillance
and analysis of data for the purpose of identifying, reporting and making
recommendations related to Infection Control issues
The following are knowledge and skills required for this position:
. Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care practices;
. Basic understanding of the principles of cleaning, disinfection and
sterilization processes;
. Understanding of the modes of transmission of infection;
. Basic understanding of and ability to identify Infectious Diseases processes;
. Knowledge of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and statistical analysis;
. Well developed written and verbal communication skills;
. Ability to plan, organize, analyse and evaluate multiple tasks;
. Ability to interpret information collected from various sources, review scientific
evidence and make recommendation to guide practice;
. Knowledge of regulatory bodies which may impact infection control practice;
. Knowledge of risk management principles, methods and techniques as it relates to Infection
Prevention and Control;
. Recognized training and/or considerable experience in Infection Control;
. Knowledge of program development and evaluation methods and techniques;
. Demonstrates professional commitment to currency in all aspects of
infection prevention, control and health promotion;
. Ability to work independently with a high level of professional judgment
and initiative in making technical decisions involving the analysis of
existing policies and procedures for the Infection Prevention and Control program;
. Knowledge of adult education learning technique;
. Strong prioritization; organizational and problem-solving skills with
the ability to collect and process information from multiple sources to make prudent decisions;
. Ability to intervene effectively to resolve conflict and manage competing demands;
. Demonstrated computer skill proficiency including Windows based programs
(i.e. MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint; and Outlook) with willingness to become
proficient in MEDITECH upon hire; and
. Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting.
A Baccalaureate Degree and 2 to 3 years in an acute care setting or a
Nursing Diploma with a minimum of 3 - 5 years nursing experience in an
acute care hospital setting and registration with Yukon Registered Nurses
Association (YRNA) is required for this position. You must be committed
to becoming certified as an Infection Control Practitioner (CICP) and
becoming a member of Community and Hospital Infection Control
Association - Canada (CHICA) as soon as possible after hire.

As a multidisciplinary team member the incumbent provides nursing

The annual salary range for these positions is $55,144.66 to $73,655.11.
