To be successful in this role you will need

Reporting to the Quality Improvement/Risk Management Manger, this position supports the strategic goals and objectives of the corporate Infection Prevention and Control Program; provides Infection Control expertise within the Whitehorse General Hospital to prevent, and/or minimize, nosocomial infection to patients; conducts necessary baseline surveillance and analysis of data for the purpose of identifying, reporting and making recommendations related to Infection Control issues The following are knowledge and skills required for this position: . Knowledge and understanding of basic patient care practices; . Basic understanding of the principles of cleaning, disinfection and sterilization processes; . Understanding of the modes of transmission of infection; . Basic understanding of and ability to identify Infectious Diseases processes; . Knowledge of microbiology, immunology, epidemiology and statistical analysis; . Well developed written and verbal communication skills; . Ability to plan, organize, analyse and evaluate multiple tasks; . Ability to interpret information collected from various sources, review scientific evidence and make recommendation to guide practice; . Knowledge of regulatory bodies which may impact infection control practice; . Knowledge of risk management principles, methods and techniques as it relates to Infection Prevention and Control; . Recognized training and/or considerable experience in Infection Control; . Knowledge of program development and evaluation methods and techniques; . Demonstrates professional commitment to currency in all aspects of infection prevention, control and health promotion; . Ability to work independently with a high level of professional judgment and initiative in making technical decisions involving the analysis of existing policies and procedures for the Infection Prevention and Control program; . Knowledge of adult education learning technique; . Strong prioritization; organizational and problem-solving skills with the ability to collect and process information from multiple sources to make prudent decisions; . Ability to intervene effectively to resolve conflict and manage competing demands; . Demonstrated computer skill proficiency including Windows based programs (i.e. MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint; and Outlook) with willingness to become proficient in MEDITECH upon hire; and . Ability to work in a cross-cultural setting. A Baccalaureate Degree and 2 to 3 years in an acute care setting or a Nursing Diploma with a minimum of 3 - 5 years nursing experience in an acute care hospital setting and registration with Yukon Registered Nurses Association (YRNA) is required for this position. You must be committed to becoming certified as an Infection Control Practitioner (CICP) and becoming a member of Community and Hospital Infection Control Association - Canada (CHICA) as soon as possible after hire. As a multidisciplinary team member the incumbent provides nursing

asset for this position.
Preference will be given to applicants with a minimum of one year's
recent
experience in Operating Room procedures. Please note that
rotating call
schedules are required of these positions.
The annual salary range for these positions is $55,144.66 to $73,655.11.
